As Desert Daze grew, it eventually moved into the high desert and became more of traditional festival set-up and attracted headlining artists such as Iggy Pop and Spiritualized.įor 2018, the festival moved to Lake Perris and snagged its biggest headliner to date: Tame Impala, but a thunderstorm cut the band’s opening night set short, forcing an evacuation of the festival.
In 2012, the initial Desert Daze took place as a series of 11 shows in the Coachella Valley, running opposite the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Pirrone was among the organizers of the Moon Block Party, a live music festival that happened in the Pomona Arts Colony in the early 2010s and promoted shows under that banner around Los Angeles, Orange County and Palm Springs. Each concert and music festival they attended or played guided their decisions on what they should and shouldn’t do. When creating Desert Daze, Pirrone said that what informed his team’s vision were their collective experiences as touring artists and music fans. “I’ve just always been that guy in the band.” “I’m an organizer at heart,” said Pirrone.
